Melbourne, 2017

Home time! My first time visiting home in 2 years. It gave me a good chance to spend some quality time with the things that truly mattered… many, many bird + brie burgers from Grill’d. Oh how I missed them! But seriously, it was great to come home to all my wonderful friends and relive the beautiful city of Melbourne.

In true Melbournian style, my first point of call was BRUNCH. Left Field in Carnegie was the place to be… one bite into my meal and I was close to cancelling my return ticket! Pulled Pork Eggs Benedict with an apple cider hollandaise. As a general rule, the standard of food is a lot higher in Australia (we’re able to grow a lot more locally, have cleaner water etc) but this was truly one of the best things I’ve ever tasted - turmeric lattes to wash it all down and I was feeling very at home again.

I had to come home and do all the fun things like the Winter Night Market and the Van Gogh exhibitoon, which I was so excited to be home for. After lining up for an hour and realising we’d only be in there for about 40 minutes though the $25 entry fee seemed less enticing - so I had to give that one a miss! Sorry Van Gogh :( I did, however, get to go an be a proper true blue Aussie at the AFL.. CARN THE ROOS. Back in town for my best friend’s birthday and all she wants to do is see the roos lose really shamefully.

It was winter time in Melbourne, but in typical English fashion, it was as warm as it was back home in London’s summer. Shorts and t-shirts all trip round! As you can see, the weather was beautiful and sunny the whole time and meant I could spend all day outdoors!

I hadn’t had a brand new tattoo all year, so I crammed in two during my small little trip. The first was a surfing Raichu, done at Blue Lady tattoos in the city centre by a guy called Mike - who exclusively does tropical party tattoos. His previous works include smashed avo on toast with cool shades and margaritas in their little green smashed hands so he obviously has a sense of humour about him. Since leaving Melbourne my mate Tim has become a tattoo apprentice, specialising in Japanese style works so I got him to design me a wee little floral rabbit, super adorable. Tim works at Strictly Tattoo just off Chapel St, so if you like Japanese design check them out :)

Homemade Banana Bread w/ Figs + Chai Marscapone

Vegan Matcha Pancakes w/ Lychee Ice Cream

Raichu

What’s that I hear? You want MORE hipster food highlights? Sure thing! Two other highly enjoyable meals came in the form of Homemade banana bread with figs and chai marscapone… to even think that there could be marscapone as good as this!! One Fine Day in Beaconsfield was the place, and it was certainly one fine meal. I also paid the Matcha Mylkbar in St Kilda a visit - it’s a vegan restaurant that incorporates matcha into everything! I went for the matcha pancakes with dark cacao sauce and lychee ‘icecream’.

Is it any wonder why, according to the Economist Intelligence Unit, Melbourne is the world’s most liveable city 7 years in a row? Of course not!
